ViaWest Secures Tax Savings for Clients Through Nevada’s New Data Center Abatement Program
DENVER and LAS VEGAS—Oct. 11, 2016 —ViaWest has been approved for the newly launched State of Nevada Data Center Abatement program, securing a partial abatement from personal property tax and sales and use tax for clients leveraging the company’s Nevada data centers. Clients’ purchases of machinery or equipment dating back to July 2016 may be eligible for an abatement up to 75 percent for personal property and reduction of sales tax to 2 percent.
“The tax incentives of the Data Center Abatement program in Nevada have the potential to help cut costs dramatically for our clients,” said Dave Leonard, chief data center officer at ViaWest. “Consider an equipment purchase of $150,000. Companies would spend about $12,000 in sales tax under the regular 8 percent tax rate, whereas the abatement reduces the cost to 2 percent, or $3,000. That’s a $9,000 savings on a fairly small buildout so larger deployments could easily save tens of thousands of dollars in taxes.”
With a total of 30 data centers across North America and Europe, ViaWest offers colocation, cloud, compliance and security services to fit clients’ unique Hybrid IT needs. Its three Nevada data centers offer a combined 100,000+ square feet of raised floor capacity, and a unique mix of environmental stability, security and accessibility to businesses looking for Western colocation services.
“We’ve implemented a variety of incentives to help make doing business in Nevada an easy choice for qualifying companies, and the new Data Center Abatement program is a great addition,” said Michael Walsh from the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance. “As a key data center provider in the state, we’re delighted to have ViaWest on board.”
