DENVER and PLANO, TX—Oct. 18, 2016 —Validating the reliability of its operations, ViaWest has received Tier III Certifications of Design Documents and Constructed Facility from Uptime Institute for its new data center in Plano, TX.

“Tier III data centers are concurrently maintainable, meaning they require no shutdowns for equipment replacement and maintenance,” said Dave Leonard, Chief Data Center Officer at ViaWest. “As ViaWest strives to be the gold standard for colocation services, we set out designing our Plano data center so it would be as reliable as possible for clients.”

This is ViaWest’s third Tier III Constructed Facility certified data center and the company’s first in Texas. The Plano data center opened in September, becoming the 30th in ViaWest’s portfolio of data centers it owns and operates across the United States and Canada.

Uptime Institute’s tier certification process has become the leading standard for differentiating the quality and reliability of data centers around the world. From Tier I for spaces providing power for data center operations to Tier IV for fault tolerant facilities, the tier system establishes a consistent set of criteria for the industry. Certification of Design Documents validates the planned functionality and capacity of a data center according to architectural and engineering specifications prior to construction. The Constructed Facility certification validates a data center’s actual construction and reliability.

“ViaWest has demonstrated integrity and transparency throughout the process of certifying the Plano data center, and we congratulate them on their achievement,“ said Keith Klesner, Senior Vice President, North America, for Uptime Institute. “ViaWest’s Plano data center is one of only two Tier III Constructed Facility certified data centers in the state of Texas, making it a truly state-of-the-art site in the region with the Tier III achievement as a strong point of differentiation.”
