Susan G. Komen Charlotte names Honorary Race for the Cure Co-Chairs, Including Flexential’s SVP of Finance, Tricia Ory

Charlotte, NC, June 6, 2019– Susan G. Komen Charlotte has named Park Williams and Tricia Ory Honorary Race for the Cure Co-Chairs for the 23rd annual Race for the Cure on October 5, 2019. Nearly 15,000 people are expected to attend the annual 5K walk/run in uptown Charlotte to celebrate breast cancer survivors, and raise money for community health programs and breast cancer research.

As Honorary Race for the Cure Co-Chairs, Williams and Ory will lead fundraising and participant recruitment efforts. They will be tasked with securing corporate event sponsors, as well as increase individual contributions to the organization. They will lead a team of event participants and network in the community to grow event participation. Williams, Vice President of North American Sales at BDP International, has been a long-time volunteer and advocate for Komen Charlotte. He has formerly served as the President of the Board of Directors and as Race for the Cure Committee Chair. He was also honored as a Pink Tie Guy in 2018; one of eight community leaders honored for their commitment to Komen Charlotte’s mission.

Ory, also a longtime volunteer and advocate for Komen Charlotte, is a certified public accountant and Senior Vice President of Finance for Flexential. She has held various leadership positions with Susan G. Komen on the local and national levels. She served six years of board service to Komen Charlotte; two years each as president, treasurer and board secretary. In 2012, she was elected to the national Susan G. Komen Board of Directors as Affiliate Representative to the board and served in the capacity of Audit Committee Chair for three years. She is also being honored as a 2019 More than Pink Woman; one of eight community leaders honored for their commitment to Komen Charlotte’s mission.

Seventy-five percent of net proceeds will be invested in community health programs in Komen Charlotte’s 13-county service area. These programs include education, breast health screenings, diagnostics, treatment support and survivorship programs. The remaining twenty-five percent of net proceeds will fund research to prevent and cure breast cancer. In the event’s 22-year history, more than $20 million has been raised to support Komen Charlotte’s mission to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our community and invest in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
