Craft brewery plans to ensure business expansion succeeds with the right IT strategy

  • Reliable infrastructure to support business expansion
  • Customized hybrid IT solution through professionalism and security
  • IT site independence and 50% increased productivity
When New Belgium opened a second brewery in Asheville, North Carolina, it needed a new strategy for running each IT site independently. Working in lockstep, Flexential and New Belgium designed, tested and adjusted a customized hybrid IT solution to fit the company’s unique needs, ensuring they nailed the right design and price within the brewery’s pressing timeline.

North Carolina expansion and the need to run IT sites independently

As one of the most successful craft breweries in the U.S., New Belgium began branching out from its roots in Colorado and opened a second brewery in Asheville, N.C. Seeking to take full advantage of its expansion, the company wanted to ensure its IT sites could run independently, eliminating the potentially business-halting effects of an outage in one of its locations.

After internal deliberation, New Belgium determined that running IT operations for the second brewery was best left with a data center provider rather than leaving all of its infrastructure to chance in Colorado. The New Belgium IT team worked together to decide on a technology partner who could support its demands and quickly settled on Flexential.

“We love our Colorado roots, but didn’t like contemplating how a major snowstorm could shut down our operations. Opening our second location and running it independently with Flexential gave us peace of mind that we could keep skiing and shipping incredible beer year-round.”

Working in tandem to deploy a custom solution

With data centers spanning the U.S., Flexential was able to provide a range of colocation options for New Belgium. Touring the data center, New Belgium was able to see first-hand how professionalism and security distinguish Flexential from other data center providers.

Working in lockstep, Flexential and New Belgium designed, tested and adjusted a customized hybrid IT solution to fit the company’s unique needs, ensuring they nailed the right design and price within the brewery’s pressing timeline.

IT independence brings relief and focus to business expansion

Post-implementation, both brewery locations were running their mission-critical applications and services separately, allowing New Belgium to achieve its goal of IT site independence. Its Fort Collins and Asheville sites brew, package and ship without relying on one another, which means they can focus on brewing and manufacturing the best craft beer for their customers without fearing that a problem at one site will cause large-scale technical issues.

In the end, the risk of a business-halting outage was diminished as a result of multiple sites while productivity was increased by 50%, thanks to the support of New Belgium’s enhanced IT infrastructure. New Belgium tackled their business expansion with confidence with 100% uptime and 24x7 support that is always a phone call away.

“Flexential’s customer service, beginning with our initial conversation and through the time we signed the contract, is just one of its points of differentiation from competitors, but it is one of the most important to us.”
